5 FOUNDATIONS OF BETTER PLAY

Five things I actually correct in coaching.

Every point comes from situations that repeat in real sessions: forced passes, late switches, R1 without a plan and one extra trick near goal.

Pick one topic. Play five matches with clear constraints, then check one measurable result after every game.

01READING THE OPPONENT

Don't dribble empty air. First see who your opponent controls.

Your opponent controls one player at a time. That player's movement and the switch reveal where space will appear. If you ball roll before the defender commits, you're guessing instead of reacting.

COMMON ERROR

You watch only your ball and play a rehearsed combo before the defender exposes anything.

BEJOTT'S RULE

Opponent movement or switch first. Your turn, pass or acceleration second.

TRAINING: 5 MATCHES

  1. 1Identify the defender with the cursor before every 1v1.
  2. 2Do not use a skill until that player steps or your opponent switches.
  3. 3Review three turnovers and check whether you moved too early.

HOW TO SEE PROGRESS

Fewer turnovers after purposeless animations and more entries into the zone the controlled defender has just left.

02AFTER RECOVERY

Winning the ball doesn't end defending. A safe first move does.

After an interception, the opponent is usually still close. Automatic sprint or a forced forward pass hands the next attack back. Move away from pressure first; use a regular X/A when the receiver lacks time for a driven pass.

COMMON ERROR

Interception, sprint, vertical pass and another turnover within three seconds.

BEJOTT'S RULE

Your first touch should create space and an angle, not merely move the ball closer to goal.

TRAINING: 5 MATCHES

  1. 1No R2/RT for the first three seconds after recovery.
  2. 2Move away from the nearest opponent with your first touch.
  3. 3If the forward lane isn't clean, play a regular X/A sideways or backwards.

HOW TO SEE PROGRESS

Count turnovers within three seconds of recovery. Target: no more than two per match.

03OFF-BALL MOVEMENT

L1 starts a run, R1 recalls it. Neither button forces the pass.

A run can move a CB, open space for someone else or force a switch. Many players press L1 and then feel obliged to play the through ball even after the lane closes.

COMMON ERROR

You press L1, see the striker move and immediately play the pass your opponent already covers.

BEJOTT'S RULE

A triggered run is a question for the defence, not a promise of a pass.

TRAINING: 5 MATCHES

  1. 1Trigger at least five L1/LB runs in each half.
  2. 2Deliberately don't pass to at least half of them; use the defender's movement instead.
  3. 3Recall the run with R1/RB when the lane closes and keep building.

HOW TO SEE PROGRESS

Fewer forced through balls and more actions where one runner opens the pass to another player.

04DEFENDING

Don't fight for the ball all the time. Win the position first.

Good defending can look passive because its job is to slow the move and remove the best option. L2 sets position, L2 + R2 adjusts faster, the right stick makes the conscious switch. R1 may press, but you must cover the middle with your own player.

COMMON ERROR

You call R1 without a plan, jump out with a CB and open the central pass in one movement.

BEJOTT'S RULE

Close the pass and the striker's run first. Attack the ball after a bad touch or when the opponent turns their back.

TRAINING: 5 MATCHES

  1. 1Don't pull a CB while a midfielder can still recover.
  2. 2Use the right stick to switch to the player protecting the run before the pass.
  3. 3When using R1, keep your controlled player between the ball and the centre of the box.

HOW TO SEE PROGRESS

The opponent turns back or goes wide more often, and you concede fewer goals from one central pass.

05FINAL THIRD

The simple X pass is the reward for a good move. Don't ruin it with another trick.

I often see a well-built attack, an advantage near the box and one unnecessary skill too many. A ball roll should move the defender or improve the angle. R1 exploits free space; it is not a turning tool under pressure.

COMMON ERROR

A simple pass finds the better player, but you choose another mechanic and lose the ball without a shot.

BEJOTT'S RULE

A mechanic must force a reaction or change the angle. If it doesn't, pass simply or finish the move.

TRAINING: 5 MATCHES

  1. 1Never use two skills in the same box action.
  2. 2Before a ball roll, name its purpose: passing angle, shooting angle or moving the defender.
  3. 3If a regular X/A finds the better-positioned teammate, play it first time.

HOW TO SEE PROGRESS

More attacks finish with a shot and fewer end after the advantage has already been created.

“Build calmly. Attack the goal greedily.”

After a few matches, check which habit is still costing you the most actions.

TOURNAMENT EXPERIENCE

I played on the biggest esports stages.

I competed against the best players in the world, including Msdossary. Today I turn the experience of 500+ LAN matches into clear advice that helps you make better decisions.

MY METHOD

I don't teach you to copy. I teach you to understand.

01

Don't dribble empty air

Read the opponent first. Then use a move that changes something.

02

Fight for position

You don't have to tackle constantly. Remove the opponent's best option first.

03

Look for timing

A good decision made one second too late often becomes a turnover.
